The math box with no math
SHEESH is a words-only deck of cards designed to spark funny conversations about math. No math experience necessary.
WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
On a 2022 global assessment, the United States’ results in math were “among the lowest ever measured by PISA in mathematics.”
In 2022, our Nations Report Card reported the “largest decline in mathematics for grades 4 and 8 since 1990.”
Math needs help. But we need to address the elephant in the room: A lot of people have intense negative feelings about the subject.
And it starts early. Math anxiety has been reported in kids as young as 5. (Ramirez 2013) These negative feelings impact math achievement as early as first grade — feelings that snowball into adulthood. In one study, an adult burst into tears when faced with simple questions like 46+18. (Ashcraft 2002)
Math, more than any other subject, ends students’ hopes and dreams about high school and college graduation. (Baoler 2016)
Before we get anywhere, we need to change the emotion associated with math.
Imagine a world where math is funny.
These cards were carefully crafted to introduce an array of math topics in a way that is engaging, funny and accessible to everyone.
Math deters hopes and dreams more than any other subject.* Join our mission to make math happy!
